[i:1enoh9h7]1-. How were your beginnings in the BL?
I used to play Warhammer 40,000 back in the very beginning, and years later when I heard of the Black Library's magazine Inferno!, I thought it would be interesting to write a story for them. My first BL writing was a Space Marine short story called "Crimson Night" featuring the Doom Eagles chapter (which was later reprinted in the collection "What Price Victory"). BL liked my writing and asked me to do more, and that was how I started writing novels for them.
2-. With what race or faction of 40k you feel more comfortable writing?
The Space Marines and the Sisters of Battle are my two favourites, although I'd love to write a story about the Necrons.
3-. Have you some another relacción with 40k? Do you paint or play?(army?)
I used to play a long time ago, back when the 40K first edition ("Rogue Trader") was out. I had a Space Marine army! But these days I don't have a lot of time for gaming, except maybe a game of Dawn of War now and then.
4-. How you confront to write on a background so closed and idealized by the fans since like is the world of 40k?
When you write a story in any world, it is important to make sure that you have the "feel" of things, and 40K is no different. I don't think it is a 'closed' world, I think there's a lot of stories to tell out there! I read a lot of the novels and the sourcebooks, and I work with the team at BL to make sure my stories fit correctly into the universe of 40K.
5-. Of the characters that you have created, who is your favorite?
I like all my characters, but if I had to choose it would be either Brother Rafen of the Blood Angels or Sister Verity of the Sisters of Battle.
6-. Are you in the habit of knowing the opinions of your readers? What type of messages do come to you? Have you got some critique for your treatment of the background?
I look at the BL online boards and sometimes talk with readers who have questions or comments. I also like to speak to fans at Games Day shows or signing events at shows. I'm always interested in people's comments on my work, although I don't always agree with them! As for critics... You can't please everyone. I just try to write the best stories I can, and hope that people enjoy them. That seems to have worked so far!
6B-. Does some relation find among other environments of Science Fiction (for example Star Treck or Star Wars) and 40k?
One of the things I like about the world of 40K is that it is so very different from other science fiction worlds. It's dark and grim, but there's something compelling about it that makes it unique.
7-. Some persons complain about that certain writers portray the Space Marines of a very human form ... what do you think in this matter?
All Space Marines start out as humans before they are transformed into Adeptus Astartes, so I think every Space Marine still retains part of what they were before they were changed. I think it is important that a Space Marine remembers who he was so he can know what it is he is fighting for in the Imperium.
8-.Have you relation with other writers of BL? who of them is your favorite?
I know a lot of the other guys in BL, we meet and talk quite often, and we get on well. It's hard to pick a favourite writer, they're all talented guys - I always enjoy the books by Nathan Long, Matt Farrer, Ben Counter and Dan Abnett.
9-.Here in Spain only have appeared two of your books " Deus encarmine " is the first one of a saga, " the flight of the Einsenstein " is a part of the Horus Heresy ... " Faith and Fire " is it the beginning of another saga?
I hope so! I would like to write more stories about the characters from "Faith and Fire" in the future, and I have a few ideas of tales I want to tell about them.
10-. Wherefrom do you extract the inspiration for your books? (Not only of 40k)
Everywhere. I listen to the world around me, to the news and to the people I pass on the street, and try to draw story ideas from real life.
11-.There is some subject matter inside Warhammer's worlds on the one that you would like to write? Out of them?
I'd love to write a novel about the Officio Assasinorum.
12-. Can you us advance someone of your future projects for BL? Perhaps something for the Horus Heresy?
My next books for BL are the Blood Angels Omnibus, which includes Deus Encarmine, Deus Sanguinius and some new text. Following that is a third Blood Angels book, Red Fury. After Red Fury, I'm planning a fourth Blood Angels book called Black Tide; beyond that, I may write either a new Sisters of Battle book or another Horus Heresy novel... We shall see!
To end, would you like to say something to your Spanish fans?
Thank you for reading my books, and I hope I will get to see more of them in your beautiful language![/i:1enoh9h7]
